Mr. Michael Kurer

Consultant Orthopædic and Shoulder Surgeon

Michael Kurer was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic and Shoulder Surgeon to North Middlesex University NHS Trust in 1994. He was born and grew up in Manchester before attending medical school at University College London. He started his orthopaedic training at the Royal Free Hospital and became a Senior Registrar at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. His interest in the shoulder was inspired by working with Ian Bayley and Paul Calvert. He spent 1 year as their Shoulder Research Fellow, immediately prior to his Consultant appointment. Over the years he has devoted more and more of his clinical time to patients with shoulder disorders. His colleagues refer patients with complex shoulder disorders and he also takes the patients with anything but straight forward humeral or shoulder girdle fractures. Mr Kurer was originally appointed as a general orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in shoulder disorders. Over the years, the understanding and techniques for treating shoulder problems have become more sophisticated. Mr Kurer has therefore diverted his attention to becoming familiar with these and spends almost all of his clinical time with patients with shoulder problems. He is a member of both the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the European Society for the Study of the Shoulder and Elbow. He is also a medical-legal expert in disorders of the shoulder. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and choir singing and following the fortunes of Manchester United Football Club.
